Dr. Smith has been a mentor to me for a little over 6 years now. His support and guidance have played an immense role in my sticking to civil engineering, especially when I was just a freshman starting at Pasadena City College.

As a first generation college student, it was often hard to see the light at the end of the tunnel, but Dr. S was that very encouraging voice in my head saying, “you can do it.” Even in the early stage of my engineering studies, we had talks about PhD options and as I am writing this today, I am pursuing my doctorate studies at Ohio State University.

I have been tremendously motivated by Dr. S' own journey and very successful career and I am blessed to have him as a mentor. I pray that his life and mentorship will bless many other emerging students just like it has blessed mine.

Throughout my academic journey there were many instances in which I was faced with extreme adversity which could have very much derailed me. Dr. Smith played a pivotal role in keeping me on track through instilling confidence in me long before I saw it within myself. Dr. Smith also offered very sound advice in times of uncertainty in both my academic and professional journey. He is able to gain a clear understanding of what a student's end goal is and does an amazing job aligning the student with what needs to be done in order to get there. Prior to meeting Dr. Smith, I would have never expected that I would be at an Ivy league institution pursuing my graduate degree in computer science.

As a young student, it can be very difficult to find a pathway to success. It is never as simple as getting the degree and showing up to a job the following Monday. With the mentorship and guidance of Dr. Smith and 3C Mentorship, I found a fulfilling career in Construction Management starting out as a Project Engineer at an ENR top 10 General Contracting Firm. My current industry is in Healthcare and with three years under my belt, I am now an Assistant Project Manager well on my way to Project Manager. 3C Mentorship opened my eyes to a wider road with multiple pathways on my journey through School.
